Body Contouring, Lift & Tucks

Weight loss, however achieved, has many health benefits. But, once you reach your weight loss goal, you may find that you still don't have the body shape and size that you expected. Following significant weight reduction , the skin and soft tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. As a result, skin that has been severely overstretched lacks support and becomes weakened, loose and sagging. Surgical body contouring after weight loss improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports the skin and fat, and removes the excess sagging fat and skin resulting in a smoother, more attractive body contour. Body contouring after weight loss is an important and rewarding phase of your challenge to achieve a healthier lifestyle and more fit and proportionate body.

Body contouring surgery after dramatic weight loss is often performed in stages. Some of the procedures that may be recommended for your body contouring include:

Dr. Woodyard will work with you to develop a plan individualized to your specific conditions and regions to be treated. In general, good candidates for body contouring include healthy, non-smoking adults of any age whose weight loss has stabilized and who have realistic expectations and are committed to leading a healthy lifestyle that includes proper nutrition and fitness.

Body Lifts

A complete lower body lift treats sagging of the abdomen, waist, hips, outer thighs and buttocks in one procedure or in staged procedures. A circumferential body lift is a single procedure that essentially combines abdominoplasty with an outer thigh lift and buttock lift. Incision patterns vary and include a circumferential incision around the body to remove the "belt" of excess skin and fat around the trunk. The tissues are repositioned and tightened for a smoother, better-toned lower body contour. An upper body lift can be performed to lift the breasts (mastopexy) and remove sagging skin of the chest and upper back also in a circumferential pattern. During a tummy tuck, excess abdominal skin and fat is removed in addition to tightening of the abdominal wall muscles.

Arm Lifts (Brachioplasty)

Droopy, sagging skin of the upper arms can result from aging, weight fluctuations and heredity. An arm lift is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm. Technically called brachioplasty, the procedure is performed to reduce excess sagging skin and localized fat deposits from the underarm region to the elbow resulting in a smoother, more toned and proportionate appearance. The smoother, tighter contours that result are apparent almost immediately. The trade-off to your improved image is a scar on the inside of your upper arm.

Thigh Lifts (Thighplasty)

Despite weight loss and fitness efforts, you may still have droopy thigh skin and find that your inner thighs rub together, or that your outer thighs just don't fit with your hip and buttock contours. Poor tissue elasticity from weight fluctuations, aging and genetic factors can result in sagging skin over the thighs and irregular contours of the thighs and lower body. A thigh lift reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in smoother skin and improved contour and proportion, allowing you to look more toned.
